An introduction to the library

         The library of Saba University was opened in conjunction with the founding of the university in 1994, and the library has witnessed several developments in terms of an increase in space, number of holdings, and services provided. Despite the difficulties that the university went through, this did not discourage its resolve, so it made its way with determination, believing in the necessity of having a library that serves the local community in particular, and researchers and scholars in general, and providing all means for the success of the university’s academic career. The library has grown exponentially until it reached this remarkable development in the building, the services provided, and the holdings. The area of ​​the library is currently about (600 m2), and includes among its sides thousands of information receptacles, including a book, periodical, university thesis, manuscript, and audio-visual materials.

The library of Saba University is considered one of the first and largest university libraries in the capital, Sana'a, and it has a staff of specialized library science staff, who have long experience in this field.

The library's procedures and services have been fully computerized, and the computer has been used in all library work and its direct and indirect services.

And the library management’s belief in the necessity of keeping pace with technological development, and the necessity of facilitating service for students, workers and researchers, an electronic library was established to be a companion to the paper library.


Arranging books on shelves


The information containers on the shelves were arranged according to their own numbers (classification number) according to their subjects and according to the (Dewey Decimal) classification system for classifying library holdings, which divides human knowledge into ten main sections, and each of these sections has ten branches, and each branch has ten other branches... And so on. In addition to adopting the first three letters of the author's family, or the title in the absence of an author.

If the book has its classification number (371.337), then its subject can be known, as follows:

300 means the book in social sciences

370 means the book is concerned with education

371 Meaning: The book deals with schools and their activities

371.3 Meaning: The book deals with the topic of teaching methods

371.33 Meaning: The book deals with the subject of teaching aids and their use in teaching

371.337 Meaning: The book deals with the subject of educational games and dolls as teaching aids.
Library Policies

Library holdings and equipment:

The library’s holdings consist of books, periodicals, references, theses, research papers, newspapers and other paper and non-paper containers, scientific databases, and an electronic library that contains many electronic books.


Some of the textbooks for academic courses are provided as much as possible.

A maximum of six copies of one title are deposited for non-reference books, and three copies for reference books.

A maximum of two copies of each number of periodicals are deposited.


A hard copy and an electronic copy of scientific theses approved by the university are deposited.

A copy of the research and graduation projects of university students that the discussion committee recommends to acquire is deposited in the library.

A number of local and international periodicals, including both Arab and foreign, are required, and the subscription is renewed whenever possible.

The Technical Procedures Section prepares all information containers received for the central library and branch libraries in accordance with the plans followed in indexing and classification, subject headings, and periodicals detector, completing all technical procedures for them, and sending them to the library halls according to consignments to be signed upon receipt to make them available to the beneficiaries.

All guiding and reference procedures are provided to the beneficiaries, and their questions and inquiries are answered, in order to improve the level of performance and take advantage of the available sources of information.

Organizing and arranging information containers, by placing them in their designated places according to their topics, according to the classification system used to enable beneficiaries to access library materials with ease.

The library maintains and periodically binds the paper information containers available in the library to preserve them.

The Technical Procedures Section announces the new information repositories that reach the library according to the available means

Dedication:

Books - gifts and donations - are accepted according to the library's policies and needs, and the gifting party is notified of the books that will not be accommodated in the library.

Letters of thanks are sent to people and entities that make donations to the library.
